Boop Oop A Doop!

20 some years ago, I was a little girl and my family had just moved into a farmhouse. The last family had left behind a nightstand in my new bedroom. In the drawer of the nightstand was this drawing of Betty Boop. Amazed by this Heather Divers person, I dreamed of the day that I would be able to draw Betty Boop this well! Little-kid-me took it as a sign that I was meant to become a cartoonist.

I’ve since learned that Betty Boop’s iconic “boop-oop-a-doop” style of singing was based off of Esther Jones. Little Esther was an African American child singer of the 1920s known for this style of singing.

I’ve held onto this drawing for all these years. Thank you, Heather Divers, whoever you are! You never know who is looking up to you or who you are inspiring! Here is Betty Boop drawn in my style!
